Survival Kids (based off of the game by the same name for the Gameboy Color):
Here is a map I have had for a while now, it's an adventure map set on a tropical island with varying landscapes (you'll have to conquer caves, march through marshes and swim through swamps, traverse steep mountains, navigate a volcano, and explore anchient ruins). It includes some small aspects of parkour but includes two difficult parkour challenges (only one is mandatory), one forest maze, an optional trivia challenge, and combat with lions, rhinos, hyenas, and wolves.

The Story:
It's your 13th birthday and your father took you on a cruise to celebrate it. However, while on the cruise you awake one morning to the sound of screaming and what sounds like gunshots! You toss over in your bed praying that your father is still fast asleep in the bed next to yours, but you don't see him anywhere in sight. You quickly jump out of bed rushing to find your father.

Before you know what hits you the ship had been bombed, but you survive and wake up on an island. "Armed with only your wits and [the birthday present your father gave you], your challenge is to find a way off the island. Along the way you'll find several more items that will help you progress through the game's devious puzzles. Fortunately, items can be [crafted] to create complex objects that can be used in solving these challenges. In addition to the puzzles, your character must also keep a healthy supply of food and fresh water. You'll also want to stay rested if you aim to survive. --T. Byrl Baker (taken from Amazon.co m)Amazon.com
What to Expect:This map can be very challenging, even if you know what you are doing. That isn't to say that new players of SC won't enjoy it, this is just a warning that this map will give you the experience of becoming a pro at combat when you are done with it. The island is fairly big giving the player plenty of room to explore and includes varying landscapes (a beach, a forest, a river, a mountain regions, and a desert region with volcanos). If you played the original game for the Gameboy Color, I did my best to recapture it in SC form.

Over 30 views. Did anyone download it? Is the link working? I'd appreciate ways I could improve the map or what everyone thinks of it.

To be honest with you, the combat thing got old really fast. It's just picking lions and bears and tigers and stuf one at a time till your tools break and blundering around hoping to find something useful and two nights later knowing you just didn' have the luck to pick the right path.

I agree with you completely on the combat; as much as I wish I could, there isn't a way for me to control the animal spawn rate (atleast as far as I know).

As far as not picking the right path, are you refering to the actual forest maze itself or the island? If it is the maze you are refering to, I will tone that down. But if it's not the maze could you clarify what you mean by "not picking the right path"? If you're getting yourself lost while traversing the island, GameFaqs has a map on it that I gennerally followed. The only differences between the original map and mine are that each space has been changed to ~3x the original size, the misleading forest was changed into a maze, I added parkour inside the ancient ruins, I added 'secret' areas all around the island with puzzles and parkour to get bonus gear that will help you out, I added a resting space near the Eastern Inlet, the layout of the mysterious swamp has been completey revamped, Northern Beach was slightly changed so that the secret path behind the waterfall now takes you to a bordered off area behind the trees, and (lastly) I added volcanoes and rock formations to the Scorching Desert. Every cave remains the exact same with the exact size with the exception of the final challenge in the basement under the acient ruins.

About finding something useful: like the original game I tried to put a good emphasis on crafting. You are not going to be able to get everything you need from chests alone, the exception being the 'bonus' chests hidden throughout the island and the chests of the long lost pirate crew contained on their ship. That being said you are going to have to craft your own weapons. The easiest way to do this is, once you get the pickaxe within the Misleading Forest begin making your way to the Mountain Region (North of your home). On your way you will find plenty of cobblestone which will give you the ability to craft a furnace and other important things of stone. If you then drop off the small cliff and begin travelling up the mountain with the waterfall you'll reach the peak of the mountain where there are caves with iron and diamond ore. These are not the only caves with mineable ore but will probably be easiest/ first ones you can encounter.

I don't doubt your build, but my issue is really simple- the inability to finding the pickaxe or any tool before my weapons break because yeah, the maze at the start). I'm a huge sucker at survival, so don't worry. Rokcstar will like it just fine.

No worries, I'll definitely make the maze easier when I update. Thanks for downloading and providing feedback image

I personally didn't have a problem with the maze or the combat system. In fact I'm enjoying it. This is one of the most well thought out RPG maps in the entire game.

I made it to the misleading forest but didn't find the pick axe before a lion got me.  The story setup is great though I can't imagine that anyone can get through the beginning with anything but the machete.

Going ng back now to try to get the pick axe again.

Alright. Made it to the pick axe!  Would have been nice to find a pumpkin in there too...I forgot to eat and almost starved before I got back to my house. The maze was pretty intense but not too tough if you know the tRick to getting out of mazes (keep following the wall along your right side).

I will leave more feedback as I get further through the story.

Wow, super thrilling game!  I just died in such a disheartening way:. I decided to strike out and not spend another night in that animal trap also known as your house and journey above the waterfall.

The only rule I planned to break was to dig holes to sleep in. I made it above the waterfall as the sun was setting and didn't have time to build a good shelter. I didn't have light to see what I was doing and, after fighting off one wolf, another got me through a corner of my shelter.

Such a rookie mistake. I'm going to have to start over because all my supplies are above the waterfall and my spawn point is my house. Maybe I'll try to make a run for it.

5 stars!!!!

id only suggest that you add digging holes for sleeping to the official rules. I like all the other ones though.

One last thing then I'll shut up. The maze isn't too difficult. On my way to get the pick axe again I realized you can use the orbit camera...still took a little time but so rewarding in the end (and I brought a snack this time)

seems to work okay to overnight in the forest before heading back to animal central.

Thanks for the amazing feedback, I'm glad you like it.

There are already made shelters scattered around the map. Most often they are big, ugly looking trees with a door sized hole in them. I don't know if those wouldn't still be animal traps after sleeping over night, but hopefully they can help you out if you get into that situation again. There actually is one at the very top of the waterfall right before it merges with the mountains. Hopefully you have enough wood to make a door that you can use to cover the hole.

But I agree with you on the house being almost too dangerous to use. Do you think adding a basement for sleeping in would fix the problem?

You're welcome!  I didn't get a chance to explore much above the waterfall. I saw one of those trees but ignored it.

I took the door with me when I abandoned my house do I guess that's another broken rule!

but I like the not breaking blocks rule and the not placing blocks rule.

The basement may help but a tunnel leading to an alternate exit may be even better....it would be cool if it exited under the grave near the misleading forest or one of those trees you mentioned.

I didn't disturb the grave because there were too many beasties guarding it.

So what did you think? How far did you make it?

I've been thinking about doing something similar to this, with changes based on the feedback provided. Not sure if I will try and come up with a new, original map or if I will base it off of other survival games. It should be a lot more interesting and more user friendly than this one here, thanks to the amazing updates Kaalus has recently added!

But if anyone has any suggestions on what they'd like to see, please let me know.

It also sounds like Hatchet, another book when a boy gets a hatchet for his birthday, he is on a plane on the way to Canada, the pilot suddenly has a heart attack and dies. Since Brian (or Kyle) only knows how to fly the plane, not land it. He panics until the plane crashes. There, in the Canadian wilderness, he is only left with a hatchet. It sounds so familiar! I might make a hatchet world. I'll download this first.

Good idea, that should be very interesting, but you'll only need to do a lot for the beginning and the end. The rest is just survival.

Great map. Hated the forest maze. I found that short cut in that sandstone structure. Nicely placed
