The spawner block is available only in creative. It is a single, solid block of a grey/black/whatever colour and is unmineable in any way except if in creative. It will not spawn anything until you edit the settings. To edit, look at it and the crouch button becomes the edit button. A menu will come up when the edit button is clicked. The following few paragraphs will describe each setting in detail.
Spawn type means what it will spawn. You can select any animal you want, even up to two of a kind. This is due to perhaps too much animals spawning and hence spawner amount will have to be limited, hence you can save spawners in this way. Very basic setting, nothing to elaborate on. You can also choose to spawn random animals, as suggested by sman :)
You can select how far the animals can spawn. This allows you to contain animal spawning into a small room or a large open area. There is a preview button that shows you how far it will be spawning. There will be a highlighted area for ease of seeing the spawn area. The view will be in third person and will be zoomed out exactly to show the area.
This is self explanatory. You choose how often it spawns.
4.Spawn Count/Max. Spawn/Reset Spawn
Spawn count means how much it spawns at a time. Max. spawn means how many it can spawn until it stops. Reset spawn means that it will continue spawning once the animals it spawns is killed. i.e. replaces dead animals. Without it, it will stop spawning after max. spawn is reached.
You can disguise it as any block you want, allowing you to hide it easily. However, you cannot disguise it as X'mas trees, fences, special block models.
This means once it is powered it will start spawning.
This means once it detects a player it will start spawning. You can set the detect radius, and you can preview it similarly to the Spawn Radius(see 2.)
Previously I said it is impossible to break. But now you can have an option for it. You have a slider with icond on top, each representing every pickaxe, which means that pickaxe and above can break it. The bottom most means by hand, and the top most is indestructible. This is default. You can choose how long it takes to break.
A fault spotted by rioxas! Spammers will most certainly exploit. This can be solved with spawn limjt. SC will calculate how many spawners are spawning at what rate and at what amount. It will stop all production upon detecting overload. Alternatively a new option can be added-auto-kill. All animals spawned by the spawner with this option will die. Drops can be toggled. I know some adventure maps do not want cheats like that! I hope this solves the problem!
