This game has gone up to Hardcore for me. I'm not liking it. I like to play a normal game, with some hardships and challenges, but I also like to have calm playing, where you can get things done. I'm level 3 on survival, and it is not fun to play. I can't find any ores worth their while except for coal and that's not as easy as it used to be to find. I find that the flu is ridiculous, walking with no shoes slows you down, and you cant very well attack wolves to get fur with a stone machete. because you cant find iron ore.
i know I sound very pessimistic but these are my impressions so far.

I don't play survival but I can tell the game is gettong very difficult. He has introduced new challenging mechanics but has not ibtroduced any counteractig mechanics to balance things out...

@shy and @leg also agree. So many things to worry about, plan for, keep track of. Like a job!! 😱 I wouldn't mind the flu feature except normal temp is now too cold, and you get sick in seconds. Set temp at +4 or 8, you will be fine. Biome 1.5x. Honestly I am very glad he split this into a new app, and that we still have version 1. You could actually get things done and - gasp - enjoy yourself in that. If a world sucks, I dump it and start over. I have a nice little 250x250 island going, even found a good old fashioned large deposit of ... Malachite, finally! Fun factor isn't totally dead. Also remember per Kaalus animals won't spawn on manmade surfaces. I wood floor all my buildings and tunnels, especially if 2 blocks + wide.

@shyameyes I totally agree with you... Same thing I feel here...
It's not a fun thing to struggle all the time....
I can't even overcome the stabilising food source stage...
Did nothing except searching for food time by time.....
I don't understand what's the fun with it...

Annoyances

I'm so frustrated and displeased. A world I created that I spent months on is now flooded because I originally put the sea level up to 2. I wish we were able to toggle the sea level in an existing world, but no we can't..Β
I really hate this new update and how they changed super flat worlds.Β
When I woke up and saw that my world was flooded, I wanted to cry.Β

@mad True it's annoying, but you should alwaysback up yourworlds especially when updating.

Male vs female and food rot

Hi Im sort of new but I am posting because I wonder why I have to play a male to play a char that can "sustain more injuries" ? Why can't they be simple and equal? Also can there be a function to turn off food going bad? Its a little too hardcore for me. :T Or allow us to smoke meat to make preserves that dont spoil and other preservation methods?Β

There are people looking into hacking the project file to reduce or eliminate some of the worst parts of the update. It looks like perhaps food rot may be stopped but more experiments are needed.
Some have claimed that placing nearly rotted pumpkins on hard surfaces may stop the rot and revert them to whole. This may at least be a temporary help...

@areshayara (hope i spelt that right) males and females are generally biologically different.kaalusis using that general difference to give tbe characters some variance to suit playstyles, I suppose. Like RPG games where you choose a warrior or mage or whatever

I quote from the wiki: http://survivalcraftgame.wikia.com/wiki/Player_Options

"Sex: In MALE the player is stronger, moves slower, it can withstand injuries, needs more food and can hit hard. In difference, in FEMALE it moves faster, needs less food, cannot survive many injuries and weaker than male."

This is what kaalus put into the game. If you don't like it then place a request in our feature requests sub-forum and we can argue there.

I'm not having problems with the food rot, actually I like it, but the mineral rarity is really getting to me. It was not that easy to find this stuff before, and now it seems impossible, i dug down to basalt without finding a single piece of coal or malachite. And I continue to dig fruitlessly. Without these minerals it's impossible to advance so this is kind of a big deal.

Malachite is higher up in the normal stone layer and so is coal and coal is also higher up in mountains or at the surface. Iron is now lower(at basalt/Lava and bedrock level) and become pieces of ore now. Hope it helps.Β

So some people are complaining for the game getting harder. I am actually very happy for that. I love the flu mechanic because it makes you pay attention to your equipment. It makes you gather clothes for preventing it and resting at fireplaces for recovering. I like this a lot. It would be cool though to have some sort of cure for it, like a warm beverage. That would come very handy when while traveling your clothes get wet under the rain and your body temperature drops.

The rotting and sickness are also very intelligent mechanics. You have to be clever in managing and renewing your resources instead of just stocking 40 pieces of meat. This adds a lot to the survival gameplay, and I want to thank the developer for this brave decision. A food conservation mechanic might be interesting as well. I initially thought of a regrigerator block, something like a chest that stops the rotting procedure. But I think it would be way cooler to make the rotting procedure temperature-dependent. What I mean by that is that if the temperature of where the food is located is hot, like in a desert, the food rots faster. If it's cold, like in a snowy biome, it is slower. You might then want a frost chamber in your house, that is a chamber with snow or ice to keep it cool, and store your food there. Or you might want to build a warehouse in a snowy biome. This would be a very entertaining addition, also because it would make snowy biomes useful, and not just a place to avoid.

I love this game so much, I hope the developers will continue on this path by making the survival experience more deep, rich and entertaining in every update.

Let me know what you think!
Cheers :)

For all we know the temperature / food preservation mechanic is already built in. Has anyone tested that?

Good grief you're right! Side by side!! Thanks, thats a game changer for me. And it's in the Recipedia... have to re-read that. Also I did finally strike a massive malachite vein, near the shore even, along walls in an underground pool. Wonder if that app still works in 2.1, for viewing world resources?

If you have a backup you can hack sea level in the project file and lower it. Flood damage can't be undone however.
