Perhaps a motion block that could be pused, made out of wood, and an advanced version would be in order.

Instead of carts, how about scooters/bicycles? These would be a fast alternative to horses, and you would sit lower instead of dying under trees.

True. Some revisions would have to be added that only allows those things to run on granite/Basalt/cobblestone/solid blocks/ other hard terrain. Dirt and sand would cause the scooter/bicycle to stop or slow down.

*gasp*
The scooter/bicycle would give a purpose to adding roads! People would have to build them in order to use that mode of transportation. This would completely revolutionize travel.

A steamboat would be very complicated and take dozens of different parts, making it nearly impossible to craft. I think an easier way to build it would be to build the entire thing on a motion block, and attach a steam engine and propeller (or paddles, depending on your preference).

ropes and ziplines....

Ziplines are good transportation because hiking in the top of the mountain would be dangerous to go back home or going bellow the mountain....

Add a rope that creates climbing tool for cliffs rather than creating ladders

then combine iron bolt and rope to shoot your rope longer or higher..

then craft a object that makes you hang in the rope for ziplines
Recipe

None. Iron bar. None
None. Stick. None
Stick. Stick. Stick

same idea..but a way different...

I was thinking to have bicycles added ingame...they can be able to jump blocks like horses... steps which would be required will be :~
1.get wood from a special tree(i guess acacia) ...im not sure about the tree
2.put that wood in furnace to get rubber...

3. Craft a tire using crafting table and rubber ...
4.have 2 tires and place them along withwood block to get wood cycle...or iron block for iron cycle.

This is extremely important..as horses are slow too... bicycles should be faster than them..

This is important also because players make multiple houses in a world very apart from each other...a horse takes much time in getting around...
a cycle would surely help ...

I wanted to spread this idea long ago...but didnt knew much about forums...:P

Transport suggestion

I have multiple suggestions for transports :

Cart: drawn by horses or cows
Diligence: drawn by groups of horses
Sailboat: a small sailing boat that is directed by the player but also depends on the wind
Tall ship: a large sailboat for long voyages, the wind has less influence on its navigation
Nessecite level 7
Steamer: a charcoal-powered boat, nessecitant to be fueled
Train: a coal or electric vehicle pulling wagons
Nessecite level 10
Hot air balloon: an air vehicle operating by being supplied with heat (coal)
Car: a car of old appearance working with diesel (or coal)
Makeshift Plane: a small plane similar to those of the 1st world war but without gun
Nessecite level 15
submarine : a special vehicle that can go under water
jeep : a car that work with fuel

some vehicles could need a special crafting table to be created, with plans, multiples parts...
when you can make some complex electrics system, it could became possible
if only this thing could fly :

Here's a really good idea (I'm surprised that no one has ever thought of it here)

Dogsleds! Like the kind native Alaskans and native Canadians use. If there is a practical reason to have tameable wolves, this would be it! Dogsleds can have anywhere from 4 to 8 dogs and each dog can pull 200 pounds. Plus dogsleds can carry supplies in chests.
This mode of transportation is very practical for cold-weather biomes as horses tend to be more susceptible to the cold and because they are heavier, they tend to sink in deep snow, and require more food to feed them.
The only downside of dogsleds is that they are only useful in really cold biomes and or in winter seasons.
