Pistons make it insanely simple to make a full function elevator. One where you select the floor you want, step in and tap a 'go' button. I'm building an example/tutorial world and will add an article describing the design on the wiki.
In brief, it only takes 1 piston and 1 memory bank per floor for the actual lift. The controls need 3 buttons and 1 display on each floor. The rest of the circuitry can be under or above the lift. You'll need 4 wires connecting the circuit with all the floors as well.
That is all unless you want a door that opens automatically.

ps I put this in the electrics category but it disappeared.  Thank you lefora. So this is attempt 2

Thanks Colin
I've finished the example world and I'm posting the link here. For some reason, once again, I can't publish to the CC...

I'll be making the wiki article for this soon...

Oh my god xD i downloaded your world and i was like : what?
I tried make my first elevator with the same exact circuit (without start button) and it doesnt work for me. I tried figure out whats wrong but i give up and then my overcomplicated monster was created xD

So after downloading your world i went back to my old one with this elevator and i still doesnt know why it doesnt work for me like it should. After half hour i realized that i was using pulling pistons instead of strict pulling pistons xD

So ill delete my elevator from cc later cause there is no point to keep it there because there is a much simpler way to achive the same results :D

Still cant belive how stupid im sometimes lol

Thank u :) great work :)

Hey Spoon3r,
Thanks but don't call yourself stupid. We are all learning about the great new features. The strict-pull piston has amazing potential and we all will be discovering new things we can do with them. I'm glad to have found that we can make elevators this easy! I've been playing with elevators a long time now and that's probably why I figured this out so quickly.

There is a limitation with this technique however. The maximum number of floors we can use is related to the floor height spacing. For example, if the floor spacing is 6 blocks we can have a max of 8 total floors. (Floor spacing plus 2.)

Now I'm working on other ways to use pistons and will post another world pretty soon. These pistons are GREAT!

Here's another little trick we can use:
----
Wire- through blocks CAN be moved by pistons. Place one atop the top-most piston and a flooring block atop that. Now you can detect when the lift is stopped at the floor and use it to automatically turn the lights on or to open the door.

More pistons

Actually, you can go higher that you first thought.  You can even have a lift cabin with this concep.  You can almost double the hight (or wydth) with using pistons in the right way.  Look at my world: [url=

I have created a cage (still needs a lot of work) using furniture.  This effectively gives you a hollo space.  I then use the pistons in the regular way, but use two sets, one to push and another to pull.  I've done this horizontally, but you can easily make this vertically.  The options are so many with this design.  If you want my world, let me know.

Stan, to upload worlds to CC that are too big, you'll have to do it manually to dropbox, copy the link and then post it through SC.  I see this as a serious bug in SC.  It might be difficult in iOS though, since there are no file managers.  In Windows 10, you must look for the candy roofes folder.  The game names are in folder like world 15 etc.  These files then have to be copied into another existing world file.  A bit of a hassle, but it works.

@johnny its a very cool design. Wished you showed what happens when you're inside and sleeping and all that.

And that's why I hate Apple. No file managers, no easy way to do stuff. I like to manipulate my mp3's, movies, and all that crap and it's impossible on ios.

@johnny Thanks for the help. It's not file size that's the problem. I upload to dropbox fine, copy the link and go to CC but I cannot PUBLISH LINK. It's always darkened.

And I think I get your expansion. I had another idea for an endless conveyor, too. It can be built as long as you desire. I'll post a link here shortly...

Endless Conveyors

This world has two designs for endless people movers. They may be adapted for vertical use.
One is slow but safe and only works in one direction. The other will push the character as fast (faster?) than you can fly and works in both directions. But, sometimes it can crush you. I think as long as you are standing to the side when activated, it doesn't crush you but that's not completely confirmed. If anyone can figure out why it sometimes glitches like that, please let me know?

The fast one uses multistate furniture and works just like the fence gate people mover but is a little more reliable and faster. The slow one uses pistons but has serious drawbacks...

Ok. I think I get it now. Are you talking about the world with the lift? Yes, there's a way to do that. That world was an example of using pistons, rather than the electrics. I'll add he answer to the wiki and give a link here. Give me some time, first...

Here's the link to the wiki article

It shows an up/down counter with the shortened count. It will stop counting up at the chosen number and will stop counting down at '0'. All you have to do is program the memory bank accordingly.

@stan there's nothing wrong with dropbox. you only get 401'd if you try to share a link exclusive to your account. you must always remember to open up a public link before sharing.

You misunderstand me, Colin. With box, I can update the file and box automatically redirects the old link to the new file. When I update a file in dropbox, the old link no longer works. That's only one of the reasons I like box much better.

It's not that much of an inconvenience to me, is there any other features that make Box better?

Since you asked, I'll list my findings and opinions:

1. You get 5 times the free storage space (10GB -v- 2GB)
2. Box's privacy policy gives better privacy.
3. Even though Dropbox's recent change improved this, it's still quicker and easier to get a share link in Box through the browser.
4. I can update a file without having to generate a new share link.
5. Box's app just seems to be smoother.
6. Box has other features that make it easier to use for a group.
7.    E.g., it can notify me whenever someone accesses a file, so there's a record of access and changes.

Had to write this in an editor since stupid lefora kept crashing my browser and losing my reply! This is my 4th attempt!
